Abstract
    An inventory drawn up in Annaba's region (7 degree 47'E-36 degree 58'N) has enabled to take a census of 44 groupers Epinephelus marginatus. These latters showed a bathymetrical repartition positively correlated with their size (r = 0.90; P < 0.01). They colonize grottos and rocky breaks. Most of the individuals are outside their shelter and have a slow escape behaviour. Younger individuals are found in shallower waters; they are often indifferent to the diver's presence and sometimes even attracted by him.
