Abstract
"The aim of INDECO is to understand and manage the relationship between fishing activities and ecosystems in elaboration with indicators for sustainable fishery. The main goal of INDECO is to bring expertise in different countries to develop together indicators of environmental performance of fisheries management. To achieve this, a coherent approach to indicators use in implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy in needed. The role of INDECO is to review existing research, identify gaps in the current research (data collection and statistical work), and examine necessary policy (and institutional changes).
INDECO is to develop:
1. Indicators for the impact of fishing on the ecosystem state, functioning and dynamics,
2. Indicators for socio-economic factors for the effectiveness of different management measures,
3. Operational models with a view of establishing the relationship between environmental conditions and fishing pressure.
