Abstract
Palm oil refineries in Indonesia are an important source of wastewater and form a treat to water quality. The aim of this project is to use microalgae to treat palm oil mill effluent (POME). The effluent will be treated in two stages. In the first stage, the effluent will be treated with a wild algae community to reduce BOD and part of the nutrients. Algal biomass produced will be used as a feedstock to biogas production using anaerobic digestion. In a second stage, the pre-treated effluent will be used to produce Spirulina biomass.
