Abstract
    An overview is given of the history of crustacean research in Belgium until 1900. From this, it is clear that the Crustacea of Belgium have long been neglected by science. A review is given of the taxonomical knowledge to date, and it is explained in detail, that the many different 'forms' of crusteacean species all belong to the same group, Crustacea.
