Abstract
On 30.VIII.1969 at Heist (North Sea coast), an exhausted longtailed skua was caught. It was released with a ring at Zeebrugge the next day. This juvenile bird, presumably in 2nd summer-plumage, has been measured and described in detail. It is the earliest observation in Belgium, but several records from early September are known. The bird was observed feeding always on remnants of mammals on the beach (a young pig, rabbits). Its presence was presumably caused by climatological factors (depression, dominant and rather strong W.-N.N.W. winds from the sea), as other skuas (St. parasiticus) were observed during the same period in Zeebrugge and S.W.-Holland as well.
