Abstract
Half-time values for temperature equilibration of the shore crab, Carcinus maenas, were determined as a relative index for the blood flow rate through the gills. At various temperatures and at various salinities the relative flow rate of the blood is shown to be linearly related to the heart frequency indicating a constant stroke volume of the heart. Variations in the ion transport, connected with osmotic stress, are reflected in the flow rate of the blood.
