Abstract
Interstitial fauna of Galapagos: III. Promesostominae (Turbellaria, Typhloplanoida). Promesostoma sartagine nov. spec, and P. tenebrosum nov. spec, are described from the mesopsammal of the Galapagos Archipelago. Both species do not have a close phylogenetic relationship with P. dipterostylum Karling, P. infundibulum Ax und P. hymanae Ax from the Pacific coast of North America. P. sartagine and P. tenebrosum are not closely related to each other, too. The new representatives of the genus have distinct synapomorphous structures with two European species: P. sartagine with P. nynaesiensis Karling, P. tenebrosum with P. balticum Luther. The cuticular copulatory apparatus (stylet) of P. tenebrosum shows a plesiomorphous type within the genus Promesostoma.
