Abstract
    The greenhouse effect, attributed in part to man's activities, has led to the warming up of the planet's atmosphere. It is in thus one of the major causes of glaciers and ice caps meltdown, which has contributed to a worldwide sea-level rise. The outcome of such eustasy is the drowning of coastal areas accompanied by a "kyrielle" of consequences with physical, biological, economic and sociological impact. There is however no uniformity of views on the precise nature, causes, magnitude and duration of the phenomenon.Keywords: eustasy, shoreline retrogradation, glaciations, climatic changes, environmental impact
