Abstract
    Anthropogenic activities have deteriorated the marine environment to an extent that it has begun to impact human health and the planet itself. While the primary stressors are identified as originating from marine pollution (heavy metals, oil, invasive species, nutrients, and marine litter such as plastics) and climate change (sea level, salinity, temperature, atmospheric CO2, and UV radiation), this deterioration is attributed to an increasing population, the Industrial Revolution, and increased use of fossil fuels. Advances in studies and understanding of these pollutants reveal that the impact extends to both humans and the biota.Though technology is being developed to ensure that future pollution trends are monitored and controlled to achieve sustainability as laid out by the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 of the United Nations, it is important to understand the impact of marine pollution on various facets of blue economy so as to reduce the stressors to a minimum. The chapter thus aims to discuss the impact marine environmental pollutants have on the blue economy and hence on sustainability.
